STEPHANIE RUTHERFORD
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR | CHOREOGRAPHER
Stephanie Rutherford is an award winning choreographer and teacher based out of Canada. With a theatre major from the University of Winnipeg and extensive training in all forms of dance, Stephanie has managed to create an established career in the industry primarily focused in directing and choreographing commercial and contemporary dance. Stephanie is known to create an environment for dancers which encourages them to be expressively open and artistically pushed. In turn, she has received much recognition for her thought provoking work. She is the artistic director and founder of RME, and alongside an incredible team, the company has managed to sell out over 18 events in the past. Stephanie directed and choreographed the show “ASCENSION - The Act of Rising to a Higher Level” a Rutherford Movement Exchange company show in 2013, as well as her company show "UNREFINED" in 2009.
International choreography credits include: ‘So You Think You Can Dance Vietnam - Season 3. Stephanie was selected out of 100 applicants as a finalist for the ‘Capezio Ace Awards’ for Choreographic Excellence in New York City. She was the coach and choreographer for Team Canada at the Modern World Dance Championships in Germany and Poland (2016, 2017, 2018). Over the years, Stephanie and her team of dancers have brought home a total of 6 Gold Medals, 3 Silver Medals and 3 Bronze Medals. She's worked with networks such as ‘MTV Canada’ and ‘Slice TV’. Locally, Stephanie has been a selected choreographer in Toronto Choreographer's Ball, Fever After Dark, Toronto Pride TD, and Women In Dance.
Stephanie is a certified Pilates teacher (mat and reformer) from Mindful Movement Center in Toronto. Through this program, she continued her education under Leslie Parker and Danielle Dodham Wright. She also has studied at The Laban Institute in Brooklyn, Restorative Yoga Teacher Training under Nora Benian and Functional Anatomy under Samantha Booker. Stephanie is currently on faculty for Alpha Dance Convention in the USA and is a freelance choreographer and teacher at many dance studios around North America.
